Meet Dr. Sullivan

Language Educator and Educational Consultant

Dr. Hannah Sullivan understands teaching to be her calling. Trips to Honduras coupled with an amazing high school Spanish teacher changed her life, and now she thrives on inspiring students and fellow teachers in the classroom.

Dr. Sullivan has spent time teaching across all levels of the educational spectrum both in-person and online. Her student teaching began in eastern Tennessee and New York City with high school and elementary students. After earning a master's degree in Spanish Linguistics, she took a job at a large public high school before landing at a small private school in Alabama where she taught middle and high school while mentoring new language teachers. She completed her PhD in Secondary Education, Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on second language acquisition, and now she has the privilege of teaching at the university level.

If you'd like to learn or better understand Spanish, Dr. Sullivan can build a personalized plan to help you achieve your goals--whether that's starting from scratch, mastering AP language courses, or developing conversational and cultural competency.  As a dynamic educator who recognizes the importance of creating opportunities for students to engage with content and each other, Dr. Sullivan crafts lessons that are a mix of structure and fun to inspire and motivate students. In 2019, she was named the Alabama World Languages Association Teacher of the Year. This fueled her passion to help teachers grow their language teaching repertoire. Over the years, Dr. Sullivan has taught and mentored young teachers with the goal of helping them recognize the unique contexts in which they teach. Her own experience in public and private schools led her to study micropolitical literacy and especially how newly-hired teachers come to find their fit within an organization. If you are looking for fresh ideas as an educator or struggling with how to work in a new environment, she is excited to help you grow as an educator--no matter where you're teaching.
